“It’s not just about the dish, it’s about what the radish represents. It has to add up to something larger than just a plate of food” - Dan Barber
Standing Ground is an adaptive project focusing on what goes on behind a plate of food. And furthermore it is a documentation spotlighting the behind the scenes, before our food even gets touched by a chef or introduced into our homes. It’s about the individuals out in the field, the ones that operate and/or own farms and ranches. Standing Ground is about the belief that knowing how food is grown and harvested is essential. These individuals are exploring the land not just their products, and are sweating to feed us season to season. The images below are small glimpses amongst a larger picture that some day, my hope is to make a cohesive body of work in different regions of the world.
Currently my focus is where I live, the central coast of CA. If you are a farmer, rancher, in the field, a chef, a farmer’s market lover, or anyone that cares about the grass on which we walk on as the seeds begin to sprout please contact me so we can have a conversation. I want to not only photograph in the field, I want to photograph the process of food. Thank you.
Standing Ground
Sure the food tastes amazing but why? I’ve always been intrigued about what happens before food hits our plates. This project focuses on the collaboration between the farmers/ranchers and the land they walk on way before the food they harvest enters our kitchens.
